CIC Vancouver: Key Foreign Policy Challenges for Canada in 2023 and Beyond with Senator Yuen Pau Woo

February 22, 2023 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm PST

As Canada faces the rapidly evolving global landscape, several key foreign policy issues present potential challenges to Canada’s economic and national security. These challenges include the growing influence of China, escalating security concerns in Europe emanating from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and the current economic uncertainty marked by widespread inflation. Additionally, Canada must navigate its relationships with other countries in the Asia Pacific Region, particularly members of ASEAN, as well as address the impacts of climate change and assert its sovereignty in the Arctic region. In this complex environment, Canada must balance its economic and security interests, while maintaining its democratic values and upholding its status as a responsible member of the global community. Senator Yuen Pau Woo, who brings a wealth of expertise in global affairs and the Asian Pacific Region, will untangle these key foreign policy challenges and discuss Canada’s future in this current global climate.
