CIC National Office: Inclusive Security – What it is and Why it Matters to Canada
May 29, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm EDT
Join us for a global perspective on women’s inclusion in preventing and stopping war. Jacqueline O’Neill will present the latest data and describe ways that policies and practices are changing at the UN, NATO, and beyond. She’ll identify trends, progress, and setbacks in countries around the world and reflect on opportunities for authentic Canadian leadership.
Jacqueline O’Neill is the President of Inclusive Security, a Washington, DC-based non-profit that increases the inclusion of women in peace negotiations and security processes.
For more than a decade, Ms. O’Neill has worked with women leaders around the world, advocated to high-level decision makers, and trained and advised military, police, and civilians serving at NATO, the UN, the US Department of Defense, and elsewhere. She has worked directly with civil society and government in more than 20 countries – including Canada – to create or improve government-wide strategies on women’s inclusion in security issues.
As President, Ms. O’Neill has testified to both US and Canadian Senate and House Committees. She’s authored numerous publications, speaks regularly at international security conferences, and has been published by outlets including Foreign Policy and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Before joining the organization in 2006, Ms. O’Neill was concurrently at the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan and at Khartoum’s Afhad University for Women. Previously, she was a policy adviser to Canada’s Secretary of State for the Asia-Pacific region. Along with former Lt. General Roméo Dallaire, she helped found an initiative to address the issue of child soldiers.
Originally from Edmonton, she has a master’s in public policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the University of Alberta.
