CIC YPN: Researching ASEAN Themes – a Zoom event

April 4, 2024 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm PDT

Join the CIC YPN and Nguyen Quoc Tan Trung for this new Zoom event…

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has been one of the most high-profile regional organizations in recent international relations and law history. Collectively, ASEAN countries have a total population of 662 million people and a gross domestic product (GDP) of $3.2 trillion. Some authors note that ASEAN is only behind the European Union in terms of economic success, political stability, and international accommodationism. However, the understanding of ASEAN views, politics, contributions, and identities within the Western-led liberal international order has been scarce, especially within the Anglo-American community, including Canada. The aim of this event is to hear from Dr. Nguyen Khac Giang as he discusses how researchers interested in ASEAN (or Indo-Pacific) themes can better understand many of the regional underpinnings that drive decision making.
