CIC Winnipeg: Monitoring Presidential Elections in Ukraine 2019

Denys Volkov and Nick Krawetz served as election monitors for the recent presidential elections in Ukraine. They will share with us the highlights of their experiences and discuss the Canada’s involvement of international elections monitoring.
Speaker’s Biography
Denys Volkov served as Director of Communications and election observer during Canada’s Elections Observation Missions to Ukraine in 2014, and as an election observer in 2019. He co-hosts the “Denys and Ivas” show on CKJS 810 AM and publishes articles on Ukraine in the Winnipeg Free Press. Denys obtained a joint Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg after moving to Canada from Britain and Ukraine.
Nick Krawetz holds a MA in Political Studies from Queen’s University and a BA in Economics and Political Studies from the University of Manitoba. Nick has travelled extensively throughout Ukraine and has written about its transition and democratization. Following Ukraine’s Revolution of Dignity, Nick has participated six times in Election Observation Missions on behalf of the Government of Canada, including observing elections in Ukraine for all levels of government.
