CIC Winnipeg: Building and Keeping the Peace: An Interdisciplinary Dialogue

March 1, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm EST

Event Summary

A full event summary is available here https://thecic.org/building-and-keeping-the-peace-an-interdisciplinary-dialogue/.

Description

Peacekeeping and peacebuilding have never been more important, or more central to global governance. Although peacekeeping in the past meant monitoring and maintaining peace between two consenting parties, peacekeeping in the 21stCentury often takes place in settings where the existence of peace is more aspiration than reality. Is the ‘classic model’ of peacekeeping still relevant in the 21st Century? Can peacebuilding work across cultures? What are the gender implications of peacebuilding and peacekeeping? What role does Canada play in 21st Century peacekeeping? These are some of the questions that will be discussed by the speakers during the conference.

Alexandra Novosseloff will be the Keynote speaker for this conference. Other confirmed speakers include:

– Kristine St-Pierre
– Daniel Mach, “I was a child soldier”
– Obasesam Okoi (PhD candidate, Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Manitoba)
– Namakula Evelyn B. Mayanja (PhD candidate, Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Manitoba)
