The Powers, Perils, and Potential of AI

April 20, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm EDT

Artificial Intelligence is a growing and increasingly relevant field that ignites both excitement over its ground-breaking technological capabilities and fears of its potentially harmful and dangerous impacts on society.

Join us in exploring the major opportunities and risks surrounding AI development. Topics will include the ethical implications of AI for education and society at large. The discussion will also explore how AI will impact governance and international affairs as well as how existing and new institutions will respond and adapt to these challenges.

Our expert panel includes Dr. Nestor Maslej, Dr. Susan Aaronson, and Dr. Wayne Holmes in conversation with Anthony Ilukwe. Dr. Maslej is the research manager at Stanford’s Institute for Human-Centered Intelligence where he manages the AI Index and Global AI Vibrancy Tool. He is also a fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation.

Dr. Aaronson is a professor of international affairs at George Washington University and director of the Digital Trade and Data Governance Hub. She is also a senior fellow at the CIGI and a fellow at George Washington University’s Institute for International Economic Policy, the Sigur Center for Asian Studies, and the Institute for International Science and Technology Policy.

Dr. Holmes is an associate professor in the UCL Knowledge Lab located at University College London. His research focuses on the ethical implications of AI in education.

Anthony Ilukwe is a technology executive with over a decade of experience building Artificial Intelligence powered products. He’s president of the CIC Toronto Branch, and its former technology chair.

The panel will take place on Thursday, April 20th at 6:00 pm. To register for this virtual event, please use the Zoom link provided.
