May 22 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EDT

The Canadian International Council’s Toronto Branch is delighted to kick of this year’s series off Politics in the Pub, featuring Dr. Lucan Way, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto.

Despite internal popular unrest and external foreign policy pressures such as sanctions, why do autocratic regimes prove to be so resilient? From Maduro in Caracas to Putin in Moscow, how do dictator’s cling onto power amidst economic crises and large-scale policy failures?

This casual discussion over food and drinks will explore these questions with one of Canada’s foremost analysts and scholars of democratization, regime change, and post-communist politics.
