The Africa Study Group (ASG) and the Institute for African Studies present:

TOWARDS COP 28: GLOBAL AND AFRICAN PERSPECTIVES ON CLIMATE CHANGE /

VERS LA COP 28 : PERSPECTIVES MONDIALES ET AFRICAINES SUR LE CHANGEMENT CLIMATIQUE

14 November 2023, 12:00 pm EST (Virtual & Open to the Public!)

OVERVIEW

The planet-wide nature of the devastating consequences of climate change is now recognized worldwide. On the eve of the Climate Conference of the Parties (COP 28), to be held from Nov. 30 to Dec. 12, 2023 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), African and many other countries have therefore been pushing for greater solidarity on the world stage.

At COP 28, for the first time, an oil and gas producer will host the global climate summit. This is both powerful and controversial. According to many experts, it could be anticipated that this Summit will be about investment and action, unlike the previous two COP events in Egypt and in the UK.

This webinar will discuss practical progress and prospects for African governments and other key stakeholders to agree on policies to limit global temperature rises and adapt to impacts caused by climate change and variability.
