The CIC is pleased to welcome Stephen Poloz, Special Adviser, Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt and author of The Next Age of Uncertainty to the CANADA SPEAKS stage.

Mr. Poloz will speak to the broader subject of economic uncertainty in the months and years ahead. Even as COVID-19 and geopolitical stresses continue to upend our lives, there are other tectonic forces acting that will disrupt the global economy long into the future. Population aging, rapid technological progress, and the transition to net zero carbon emissions will have profound implications for our future, some of them unforecastable. Drawing from his new book, The Next Age of Uncertainty, Stephen Poloz will explain how these same forces have interacted to produce major historical events, such as the Victorian Depression of 1873-96, the Great Depression of the 1930s, the Great Inflation of the 1970s, and the Global Financial Crisis of 2008. Understanding how these dynamic forces will factor into the post-pandemic outlook will help individuals, investors, and companies adapt to a riskier future.
