Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro issued Ottawa an ultimatum that his government would take ‘crude, urgent and energetic measures’ if Canada and 12 other nations don’t retract their letter calling his election illegitimate. In response, Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland doubled down on her comments, saying Maduro has lost any remaining appearance of legitimacy.
